Thu, 09/29/2016 - 4:29pmTwo B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration Hospitality Management students recently received Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation scholarships totaling $2,900.
The recipients of the LRA Culinary and Hospitality Leadership scholarships are honors freshman Jenna Allen from Youngsville, La. and sophomore Leah Williamson from Marrero, La.
The scholarship is open to students with an interest in hospitality management or culinary careers. The Moody College of Business students were recognized at the 2016 Five Star Futures Awards Gala along with 35 other LRAEF scholarship recipients.
According to UL Lafayette’s Hospitality Management Program Director Becky Dubois, this is the first time this type of scholarship was granted to any UL Lafayette students. Dubois worked closely with Williamson on her application and she is proud the LRAEF recognizes the students’ efforts.
“It is wonderful to see organizations like the Louisiana Restaurant Association reward students for their hard work and dedication to the food service industry. I am extremely proud that students from UL Lafayette were selected as recipients this year. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for these young and talented individuals.”
Freshman industrial design major Steven VanZandt from Covington, La. also received an LRAEF scholarship and plans to use his experience in industrial design and in the restaurant business to design better, more efficient, and more cost effective kitchen equipment for restaurants.
