Charles Nicholas Saloom named Spring 2017 Outstanding Accounting Graduate
Fri, 05/05/2017 - 9:22amCharles Nicholas Saloom has been named the Outstanding Graduate for the Accounting Department in the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration for the Spring 2017 semester.
Saloom has been the recipient of numerous scholarships including the TOPS Honors Scholarship, the UL Foundation Scholarship, and the UL Centennial Valedictorian Scholarship. While earning a 3.97 cumulative GPA, Saloom has also been listed on the President’s List for three consecutive years as well as the Dean’s List this past fall. He has also won many awards such as the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges in the spring of 2016 as well as the Louisiana LGBT Student Leadership Award with the PFLAG Organization this past summer.
Saloom also acted as the Regional and Annual Meeting Representative for the Beta Alpha Psi Financial Literacy Team and the Best Practices Team while also acting as Vice President of Professional Activity for the past two years. With the organization, he has won the Outstanding Member award in the spring of 2015 as well as the Outstanding Executive Committee Member award in the spring of 2016. He has also been a member of UL’s GLASS organization since 2013 and president since this past fall.
Saloom has also volunteered for many local events and organizations such as St. Joseph’s Diner and The Big Event for the past four years. He has also helped his fellow students by volunteering on numerous occasions for the UL Career Fair, Career Services Resume Café and as a tutor for Introduction to Accounting.
He is currently working as an intern with Darnall, Sikes, Gardes, & Frederick and after graduation, he plans to earn his CPA license. In the fall, Saloom will start as a staff accountant for Ernst & Young. He would like to one day earn his doctorate in accounting and become a professor or work toward opening a business that specializes in Corporate Investment Advisory Services. He also hopes to one day start a scholarship program that awards minority students based on their involvement in the community, their social activism, and their academic achievements.
He is the son of Sally and Charlie Saloom of Lafayette, La.
