Upon completion of a notary preparation course at the Moody College of Business in the fall of 2017, full time students achieved a record-high pass rate of 63 percent. This is higher than the state average pass rate of 20 percent.

Fred W. Davis, J.D., teaches the Notary Public Preparation Course and has been an attorney and notary for over 34 years. He is also the publisher of the “Pass My Notary” workbook, a key tool for students enrolled in the course. The workbook includes strategies, sample test questions, and an analysis of the state exam.

The preparation course BLAW 340 is offered every fall semester and is the only notary class in the state offered for university credit. For non-degree seeking individuals, BLAW 240 is offered to the public.

“Many accounting students choose to take the notary class so they will have a better chance of passing the state test. They can graduate not only with their degree but a Louisiana state notarial commission that can help make them more marketable to employers,” Davis said.

Hannah Dardar, an accounting graduate from Abbeville, LA, and Heather Trahan, an accounting graduate from Crowley, LA, were in the recent BLAW 340 course. Dardar says, “Mr. Davis’ workbook and exams strongly resembled the actual notary exam and gave us opportunities to get additional practice. Because of Mr. Davis’ class, I felt confident and prepared walking in to the exam.” Trahan adds, “When I was taking the state test, I knew exactly where to find the topics in the study guide. I couldn’t have done it without Mr. Davis.”

To register for this course, current students can do so at registrar.louisiana.edu/register, and prospective students should apply at louisiana.edu/admissions before registering. Please note Davis’ course is not offered online.
