Tue, 02/27/2018 - 10:15amThe UL Lafayette Megapreneurship Society hosted the first-ever IDEAthon on February 21 at the Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise Center. High school students from around Acadiana, UL Lafayette students and community members were able to network with entrepreneurs and pitch their ideas to College of Business students in an open-mic format. Those pitching ideas competed in one of three categories including “Trust Your Crazy Idea Challenge”, “Best UL Lafayette Idea”, and “Best Delivered Idea”.
Christopher Daigrepont was this year’s winner with the best UL Lafayette idea. His idea was to create a union for students to utilize collective bargaining with colleges in order to achieve lower tuition prices. Daigrepont says, “It really meant a lot to see successful entrepreneurs [at IDEAthon], and I believe it is a wonderful platform for young entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas.”
This year’s IDEAthon was made possible by sponsors including Opportunity Machine, Innov8 Acadiana, WAITR, DeanO’s Pizza, Parish Tins, Great American Cookies, Blaze Pizza, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Rotolo’s Pizzeria, Hot Dog on a Stick, and Mazen Grill Lafayette.
The UL Lafayette Megapreneurship Society is founded upon the ability to create new entrepreneurial, intrapreneurial and social enterprise value. The purpose is to be a diverse, intellectual and service-oriented organization. The society aims to cultivate knowledge creation to support and foster entrepreneurship at UL Lafayette.
