Madison Fontenot is an undergraduate student at the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration. She was an intern at Wright, Moore, DeHart, Dupuis, & Hutchinson, LLC in Lafayette, LA. We interviewed her to find out more about her experience and how an internship has benefitted her professional development.

Why did you choose to attend UL Lafayette?
I always loved the culture that UL Lafayette radiates as well as the bonus of staying close to home.
Why did you choose to major in Management?
I always knew I wanted to be in business. Management stuck out to me because without good management it is so easy for a company to fail. It wasn’t until Catherine Chauvin's MGMT 365 class that the importance of human resource management was shown to me.
Why did you decide to participate in the Moody Business Internship Program?
I wanted to learn as much as I could from an inside position of someone who is getting to work the job that I would like to work.
How did you first hear about your internship?
I was actually working at this firm as a runner for about a year when I got the chance to further my education within the company.
What was your favorite thing about your internship?
My favorite thing about this internship was being able to learn so much. That sounds so broad, but you do not realize how much there is in HR until you sit down and listen. HR managers need to know the ins and outs of the entire company.
What were your responsibilities at your internship?
My internship involved learning the various administrative positions. You never go into work with one thing to do. I was always being taught different duties of the firm at a higher level than I ever imagined.
What is the most valuable thing you have learned during your internship?
The most valuable thing I learned during my internship was to never underestimate a single position.
How do you think participating in the Moody Business Internship Program has benefitted your professional development?
I believe participating in the internship program has benefitted me by allowing me to become a well-rounded employee while gaining valuable experience.
What advice would you give to someone considering participating in the Moody Business Internship Program in the future?
I would tell anyone that participating in the Moody Business Internship Program is so worth it. This could very easily be one of the most important experiences of your college career.
